Design Trends 2019 | International Furniture Exhibition in Milan

The 2019 Salone del Mobile also closed with great success this year: 386.236 participants came from 181 countries. Obviously, among these presences, we were there too, and during our tour, we researched the new trends in furnishing and interior design.

First, let’s talk about colour. Say goodbye to the soft pastel shades, the protagonist will be the colour green, and all its nuances. This colour has always represented nature, it inspires serenity and supports good humour, and besides, it goes very well with all types of wood. Instead, to give a touch of the chic and enhance environments, make way for details and finishes in gold and brass.

Natural materials such as stone, rough woods and earthenware are coming back in style. The inclusion of these elements in the furnishings helps make them more intimate and welcoming, conveying a sense of solidity and timeless elegance.

The real trendy component for this season is the coffee table. Many different colours, shapes and heights can be combined to create practical corners close to relaxation areas, such as sofas and armchairs. Another highlight for this Salone del Mobile is the bookcase, which is no longer intended only as a storage unit but also as a decorative wall to separate living areas elegantly.

What impressed us most this year was the design and sophistication of outdoor furniture. Furnishing components composed of technical materials, interwoven fibres and refined fabrics transform outdoor spaces into extensions of the home. The separation between the internal and external environment is disappearing, and we will probably see more and more furniture created to adapt to both solutions.
